Last Christmas is a popular Christmas song sung by George Michael in the Duo Wham! Andrew Ridgeley being the second member. The song only reached number 2 in the UK singles chart because “Do They Know It’s Christmas” the 1984 band aid single for Ethiopia by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure held the Christmas No.1 slot. However, all the money from “Last Christmas” and it’s B side was also donated to the Ethiopian famine appeal.

The Christmas Carol Silent Night has interesting beginnings. The Church Organ in the parish church of Obedorf had stopped working. It was Christmas Eve 1818 but Joseph Mohr had the idea of setting a poem he had written to music. He gave the words to the organist Franz Xaver Gruber. In a short time Gruber had written the lovely melody we know today. He accompanied Silent Night on the guitar and it was played at the Christmas Eve service for the first time. So it is very apt to play Silent Night on the guitar either as a Guitar Solo or as an accompaniment to voices.
